How to Teach Your Dog to Talk: 125 Tricks Captain Haggerty Random House 0517222213 / 9780517222218 New Hardcover If you think you can't teach an old dog new tricks, think again. This is not your everyday obedience or training guide - it is designed for dogs who are ready for new challenges and presents instructions for 125 tricks, ranging from simple 'bits' to spectacular acts worthy of show business. There's even a section on tricks ideal for kids to teach the family dog as well as notes on breeds that excel at specific activities. I have not read this entire book, but I have flipped through it and picked out the bits that interested me. Basically, this book emphasises close interaction with your dog, and gives tricks and training tips & methods for: * Teaching your dog to vocalize - not just 'speak' on command, but to make close approxomations to human words. The author covers which breeds are better able to physically handle this than others - the Basenji, for example, is probablly least capable. * Building your dog a vocabulary * Refusing food offered by a stranger * Teaching right and left * Teaching tricks - Wipe Your Feet; Guarding objects, retrieval, balance and catch, fetching specific objects * Stupid pet tricks (for kids): Master mathematician, Sleight-of-paw, disappearing coin tricks. All in all a very fun and interesting book. I kept a copy for myself, but my older guy isn't too interested in learning new tricks - he's already a master of manipulation! Price:
